<p>Over the past 6 weeks, the team have been listening to the views of people who use Stratford Station and the surrounding area. There have been in-person events at different locations as well as the online consultation. Lots of people have let us know what they think about the plans for the future of the Stratford Station area.</p> <p>The consultation is now closed and over 12,000 people visited the consultation online or in-person and over 1100 people took the time to respond. Thank you to everyone who took the time to take part. They have been essential to the success of the town centre. However increasing numbers of people are using the stations and the town centre which puts it under a lot of pressure. We know there are some measures needed right now to improve the train station and we are working on these. We are also developing ideas about the longer-term future of Station Quarter from 2030s onwards. What could Stratford Station look like in the future?

<h3>In 2 years, in 10 years or even in 25 years?</h3><p>It will take time to plan, design and deliver the major improvements needed. Current forecasts show these more significant improvements will be needed from 2031 onwards. Starting the planning now means we have time to get this right and make sure there is a coordinated approach with Newham Council and their work on Stratford Town Centre and the Carpenters Estate.</p><p>The way we are thinking about Stratford&#39;s stations has changed &ndash; we know that stations are much more than just a place to catch a train, they can support businesses, create jobs, make community spaces, activate town centres and so much more.</p><p>We know this work will be complicated, we want to hear from local residents, businesses, community groups and passengers. How do you use Stratford Station?

<h3>More than an interchange</h3><p>Stratford&#39;s stations play an important role in people lives, providing access to a wide range of essential transport, ranging across rail, buses and links to other types of transport. Critically, Stratford also provides a transport hub were you can interchange between these services.</p><p>However as important as this transport hub is, many of its parts aren&#39;t as easy to use and move around as they could be. For example, there are separate bus stations, which can be confusing for new visitors. While these different parts do their jobs well, they often don&#39;t work as well as they could do together, or provide spaces and places that are pleasant to use.</p><p>As the stations gear-up to meet future demand, we have an important chance to make these different parts of the transport hub work better together, and work harder to make great places and spaces in and around the stations, to provide more than just an interchange.</p>

<h3>128 million users go through Stratford station each year.</h3><p>The Stratford Stations sit at the heart of the town centre and are vitally important to residents, passengers, visitors and businesses. However, the stations are struggling to cope with the number of people using them. The layout and connections between them can also be difficult to navigate. Connections both into the stations and across it from Stratford to Westfield and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park could be a lot better, especially if the public spaces and streets around the stations are planned together with any changes to Stratford and the stations.</p><p><img src="https://res.cloudinary.com/commonplace-digital-limited/image/upload/v1630686953/projects/p8yxqfjfb2x944ydhbes.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib fr-fil"></p>

<h4>Why does Stratford Station need to change?</h4><p>Stations have been at the heart of Stratford&#39;s growth since it was opened in 1839 by the Eastern Counties Railway all the way through to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.</p><p>So much has happened at Stratford Station over the past 20 years. The Jubilee Line extension brought better connections along with a new station concourse, further improvements were made for the 2012 Games including the &lsquo;rusty&rsquo; pedestrian bridge over the station that links Westfield.</p><p>As more new homes and businesses come to Stratford and as visitor numbers increase - with developments like the new cultural and education district at East Bank &ndash; the station will need significant investment to keep working for people.</p><p>We know there are some measures needed right now and these are being worked on with our partners. But we need your ideas and unique knowledge of the stations and wider Stratford town to help build the right stations for the future of Stratford.</p><p>Starting the planning now means we have time to get this right and make sure there is a coordinated approach with Newham Council and their work on Stratford Town Centre and the Carpenters Estate.</p>

<h4>Can we build stations for the next 100 years?</h4><p>To support Stratford&rsquo;s growth, we need to make sure the station is fit for the next 100 years and the maximum possible benefits are secured for local residents. This could include much better and direct connections to the station and across it to get to the jobs and opportunities on and around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Stratford International also has real potential for more services, potentially to mainland Europe, and to have better connections to Stratford Station. Current forecasts show significant improvements will be needed from 2031 onwards.</p><p>As more new homes and businesses come to Stratford and as visitor numbers increase - with developments like the new cultural and education district at East Bank &ndash; the stations will need significant investment to keep working for people.</p><p>We need to create stations that match the scale of ambition and high quality of public space that people living, working and visiting Stratford deserve. Stations for the local community and visitors that is welcoming and accessible to all.</p>
